Keeping A Healthy Lawn

Mowing

Mow Floratam and Bahia Grasses at a height of 3-4 inches.  Don't scalp the lawn!  Mowing at this height promotes a healthy and thick lawn.  Keep mower blades sharpened in order not to tear the grass blades.  It is not necessary to bag your clippings.

Watering

Once a lawn is established you can water once a week.  A good indicator that a lawn requires water is that the grass blades are curling.  With an automatic sprinkler system, the small spray heads should operate 15 to 20 minutes.  Large rotating heads should operate 40-60 minutes.

Weeds

Keeping grass thick and healthy helps to keep weeds out of Floratam, Seville, Zoysia and Palmetto sod.  For weed control use Atrazine for dollars weeds and clover.

Insect Control

Control of insects promotes a healthy lawn.   Triazicide or Talstar may be used for Chinch Bug control.  Triazicide may also be used for Mole Crickets in Bahia grass.  You may also call a professional pest control company.

Fertilization

Fertilize Floratam Sod 3-4 times a year with a balanced fertilizer 6-6-6 or 10-10-10.  On Bahia Sod fertilize once a year preferably in the spring with a balanced fertilizer 6-6-6 or 10-10-10.
